  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $20 million. Box office, $11,444,204.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The country's name of Parador is a portmanteau of the South American countries of Paraguay (PARA) and Ecuador (DOR). Parador is also the Spanish word for a government-run inn that are popular in countries such as Spain and Puerto Rico.
  • Making Use of the Twin: Up until the character's death, dictator Alphonse Simms is played by Lorin Dreyfuss, Richard Dreyfuss's brother.
  • Production Posse: Raul Julia, Sonia Braga, Jose Lewgoy, and Milton Goncalves all previously starred together in Kiss of the Spider Woman; which was also shot in Brazil.
  • Throw It In!: The dictator of Parador was named Simms after Paul Mazursky needed footage of a crowd of locals chanting his name, in which they all said "Sim!" (Portuguese for "Yes").
  • Those Two Actors: The second of three times Raul Julia and Sonia Braga starred opposite one another, preceded by Kiss of the Spider Woman and followed by The Rookie.
