Trivia / Monster Musume

Go To

  • The Danza: A stealth case, with Miia being voiced by Sora Amamiya. Probably coincidental, since the character was named before the actress was cast.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • This show launched a whole series of popular 'monster girl' shows following a couple of years later (about the time it takes to get an anime up and running).
    • One of the most blatant is the light novel and later manga Monster Musume no Oisha-san, or Monster Girl Doctor (even the title is similar), which spawned an anime adaptation in July 2020. It's about a doctor in a medieval fantasy world with a lamia assistant (voiced by Saori Onishi, Doppel's VA) who cures the ailments of several monster girls. Let's see: we have a tomboyish harpy with a short name and who wears minimal, a blonde centaur knight, a patched-up flesh golem, a shy-looking purple-eyed cyclops, a mermaid, a mature-looking voluptuous arachne (whose name even references arachnids thrice!) and a petite dragon girl (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki, Lilith's VA, and they're both petite monster girls). The fact that the author outright used Daily Monster Girl as inspiration for their work, along with how Z-ton, who did some parts of the 4-koma anthology, is the novel art illustrator and manga artist for Monster Girl Doctor, likely is a large part of why there's so many similarities.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: Okayado accepted submissions on his Twitter for people to get themselves featured in the manga. Known as Mob Characters, they were heavily featured in chapters based around the onsen, allowing people to get dates with their preferred monstergirls. The sheer amount of cameos numbers in the hundreds, and essentially turned the dating chapters into excuses to see how a multitude of Promoted Fanboys would react to having hot monstergirls flirt with them.
  • Recycled Script: Chapter 16 (Rach's introduction) is basically a rehashing of chapter 11 (Mero's introduction), except Centorea is the jealous one instead of Miia.
  • Schedule Slip: The gap between chapter 73 and chapter 74 was almost a year, with chapter 73 being released in April 2021 and chapter 74 not coming out until March 2022.
  • Sleeper Hit: Tops the N.Y. Times best sellers list, in its first week. And stayed there for its second week.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • As revealed by Volume 4's omake, Papi was originally designed to have tail feathers on her buttocks. But because of complications from human fashion (i.e. panties folding up tail feathers), the tail feathers are discarded in favour of a humanoid butt.
    • Early sketches of Lala show her having red eyes and a regular skin tone color (the dullahan from Okayado's porn strips had regular skin color as well). She looked too much like a normal human person, so Okayado colored her blue and made her sclerae black.
    • Kimihito had no face in his original design. Okayado states this would've been to better emulate the Featureless Protagonist common in Dating games (Kimihito's nickname of "Darling" being another such reference to the genre). The frequent use of Blank White Eyes being an internal compromise for Okayado, deciding that if he was going to give him a face then he would at least avoid drawing his eyes.
  • Write Who You Know: Okayado made an official character of PoltFan, who is the English translator for the manga in real life. He was also written in as Polt's new husband in Chapter 64.
