  • Actor-Inspired Element: It turns out Winnie and Bernie being more than friends wasn't in the script originally. Their actors Jane Widdop and Jess McLeod came up with the idea, based on how much they saw the characters' had chemistry together, which the filmmakers ran with.
  • California Doubling: The film is set in Angel Falls, a fictional American town, but was filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
  • Dawson Casting: Winnie, Bernie and other teenagers are played by actors in their twenties.
  • Fake American: The film is set somewhere in the US. Due to being filmed in Vancouver, Canada, many of the characters are played by Canadians though.
  • Friendship on the Set: Jane Widdop (Winnie) and Jess McLeod (Bernie) quickly bonded after meeting. Both actors have said very kind things about each other in interviews, and say that the chemistry which the characters had stems from their bond.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor:
    • Karen, a lesbian married to Gale, was played by Cassandra Naud, who's queer.
    • Winnie and Bernie, two girls, turn out to have a mutual attraction. Jane Widdop (Winnie) and Jess McLeod (Bernie) are both nonbinary. Widdop has a girlfriend too.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jess McLeod is a huge fan of Justin Long, and so working with him was a major appeal of the film for them.
  • Throw It In!: Buck's line about bringing a canine unit in, not because it would help catch the killer but just for vibes actually was something his actor Sean Depner ad-libbed, Jess McLeod revealed in an interview on the film.
