Trivia / It Runs in the Family (1994)

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Only released to a few screens by MGM in 1994. On a $15 million budget, it earned $70,000! It didn't help that the studio didn't advertise it as a sequel to A Christmas Story.
  • B-Team Sequel: Aside from Bob Clark returning as director and Jean Shepherd and Tedde Moore reprising their roles as the Narrator and Miss Shields, none of the cast and crew of the original film were involved.
  • The Other Darrin: Because the cast of the original film had aged to the point where they no longer fit their roles, the film was entirely recast. Averted with the Narrator and Miss Shields, for in which Jean Shepherd and Tedde Moore reprised their roles.
  • Post-Release Retitle: It was retitled My Summer Story for home video, presumably to play up the connection with A Christmas Story.
  • Role Reprise: Jean Shepherd and Tedde Moore reprises their roles as the Narrator and Ralphie's teacher Miss Shields, respectively, the only cast members from the original film to reprise their roles.
  • Sequel Gap: The movie was released 11 years after its predecessor.
