- Questionable Casting: Charles Grodin as the Old Man. He doesn't necessarily do a bad job with the part, but Grodin's specialty is more of a low, simmering anger that lacks the characteristic hamminess of Darren McGavin's beloved take on the Old Man, or even James B. Sikking's stern crankiness in Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss, both of which are much closer to how Jean Shepherd depicted the Old Man in the source material.
