Trivia / Ghosts 'n Goblins

Go To

  • Ascended Fan Nickname: The Cyclops name became canon in Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection.
  • Port Overdosed: Not only did Ghosts 'n Goblins end up on almost every home computer of the era, but it's been one of Capcom's most favored games (along with 1942) for re-releases and compilations. It's hard to name a system that cannot play the game.
  • Referenced by...: Arthur himself shows up in the background of Castle Hellstrom from Jitsu Squad — as an armored skeleton. He can be identified through his helmet and lance.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Ghouls 'n Ghosts was originally going to have branching paths, in which the player would have to choose its route between two levels after finishing the previous one. Once the player decided their own route for the first playthrough, they would have to play a second route during New Game Plus with the levels that weren't completed the first time. This was meant to add more replay value and variety to the game, but the idea had to be scrapped because of the CPS-1's limited memory. The scrapped levels were repurposed for Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts while the idea of branching paths was later reused for Makaimura for WonderSwan, the Game Boy Advance port of Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection.
  • Sequel Gap: There are significant lengths of time between each Ghosts 'n Goblins game, though Gargoyle's Quest and Maximo were released in-between them. The longest break for the series and its spinoffs has been the 11-year gap between Gold Knights II and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection (15 years if you don't count the mobile games, since Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins was released in 2006).
  • What Could Have Been: If Capcom had been able to pull it together, we could've had Ghouls 'n Ghosts Online.
