Trivia / Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Go To

  • Follow the Leader: In keeping with the tradition of SNK and Capcom influencing one another, City of the Wolves has several new mechanics inspired by ones found in Street Fighter 6. The REV System and Overheat are very similar to SF6's Drive System and Burnout, while the new Smart Style control scheme is essentially SNK's take on that game's Modern Controls.
  • Refitted for Sequel: SNK have made quite a few references to some old design sheets they had for an unmade Garou sequel that was planned but never finished before they first went bankrupt.
    • The idea of a female Muay Thai user who'd act as Joe's successor dates back to the unmade sequel to Garou, with sprites for the character (then named "Kuan Konta") even having been completed before the project was axed. That said, aside from being Joe's successor, Preecha is almost completely different from what was presented for Kuan.
    • Terry's diagonal Rising Tackle was also inspired by those same sprite sheets for the canceled Garou sequel. It would later be reworked into one of his special moves in this game.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Manaka Iwami takes over as the voice of Hotaru Futaba from Yuki Horie.
    • Griffin Puatu and Michael Schneider respectively take over Rock and Terry's new English voices, replacing Mike Lane and Tony Carrol from the Maximum Impact games.
    • While Tizoc retains Hikaru Hanada, Marco Rodrigues is now voiced by Ken'ichirou Matsuda.
  • Role Reprise: Hikaru Hanada is back as Tizoc, having been his voice since his debut and his 'turn' into the King of Dinosaurs in The King of Fighters XIV & XV. As stated above, he does not reprise Marco.
  • Sequel Gap: City of the Wolves releases in early 2025, nearly 26 years after Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
  • Word of God: According to SNK director Yasuyuki Oda in an interview with 4Gamer, the seven claw marks shown on the game's logo represent the seven canonical entries in the Fatal Fury franchise, City of the Wolves included. This excludes the "Special" entries and other spin-offs (Wild Ambition, First Contact).note
