- Follow the Leader: Many of the changes made from the first game (the entire cast now being playable in Arcade Mode, the introduction of a female fighter, exotic international locales, combos, destructible items in the stages, etc.) were inspired by Capcom's landmark Street Fighter II, which was released the prior year. Likewise, the Special update that introduced balance changes and made the four boss characters playable came about after Capcom did a similar Updated Re-release with Street Fighter II: Champion Edition.
