Trivia / ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter

Go To

  • The Other Darrin: Originally, the pre-show robot was named T.O.M., voiced by Phil Hartman, and was depicted as more bumbling and less competent, only frying Skippy by accident. After the retooling in early 1995, he became S.I.R., voiced by Tim Curry, and is much more competent and menacing, intentionally frying Skippy.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: In 2002, Clench's actor Jeffrey Jones was discovered to have been in possession of child pornography and had solicited a 14 year-old boy for nude photos. While Disney never officially commented on this, it's widely believed to have fueled their decision to shut down the ride in 2003, as it was already not very popular.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, then-Disney CEO Michael Eisner wanted the attraction to be based on the Alien franchise. It was going to be titled Nostromo after the ship from the first film, and would've had guests fire lasers mounted to the ride car at Xenomorphs popping up all over the place. X-S Tech was also going to be the Weyland-Yutani Corp. Disney imagineers were outright appalled at the concept, believing it to be remarkably unfit for a Disney theme park. They pushed back against Eisner and convinced him to drop the idea, though remnants of the original concept made its way into the Buzz Lightyear rides (guests firing lasers at aliens) and The Great Movie Ride (the inclusion of a Xenomorph, though heavily downplayed). Ironically, Disney now owns the Alien franchise outright as of 2019.
    • An alternate ending from an assembly cut of the monitor footage has Femus and Spinlock teleporting Clench back to the lab, but he is so furious at the two that they make an excuse that he's just a malevolent alien shapeshifter in disguise and teleport him away.
    • The ride was going to have a clone in Disneyland Paris' Discoveryland.
