• Billing Displacement: Advertising made a big deal of Corey Taylor on voicing the Fisher King. In actuality, he only does one roar which gets played a few times. The actual voice is Peter Serafinowicz (Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace).
• The Cast Showoff: Peter Capaldi gets to demonstrate his guitar skills again. That's also him playing guitar during the retooled opening theme, becoming the first Doctor actor to contribute to any televised version of the theme.
• Promoted Fanboy: Corey Taylor was a fan of Doctor Who, and the production team recruited him for the Fisher King's roar when they found out Slipknot was touring Cardiff, and gave him a set tour as well with his bandmates Craig Jones and Jim Root coming along for the tour.
• The Red Stapler: For a few days after this episode aired, there was a spike in Google searches for "bootstrap paradox". When the Doctor says to "Google it", people did indeed Google it! The Radiotimes even ran an article at the time explaining it, noting the above.
