• Channel Hop: The first three films, Death Note, Death Note: The Last Name, and L: change the WorLd, were all distributed in North America by Viz Media. In 2018 however, Funimation obtained the rights to release the first two films as well as the most recent film, Death Note: Light Up the New World, in North America.
• No Dub for You: Due to Funimation now distributing the films in North America instead of Viz Media, the film series has now been left undubbed.
• Role Reprise: The English Dub of the movies sees the return of the Dub cast of the original.
• What Could Have Been: Originally, the Shinigami were going to have been portrayed by physical actors wearing make-up and prosthetics. However, Shunsuke Kaneko decided to make them CGI because it would look more blatant that the Shinigami aren't physically there, much like in the manga.
