  • Dawson Casting: Varies among the cast members (who were played by actors in their teens to early 20s). Steven Daniel is the only exception among the younger cast as El-Train is depicted as being years older than the other characters due to being held back in school.
  • Distanced from Current Events: The episode "Al's In Toyland" wound up being post-poned from it's original October 2001 airdate until after the Series Finale had aired due to NBC having issues with the content of the episode(with Al trying to come up with an advertising campaign to sell a toy gun for his company without depicting violence)coming so soon after 9/11, though it was aired in it's proper place in the season(after "Dances With Malcolm") in future reruns in syndication.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Like most TNBC shows this show was rarely seen again after it's original run and it's 2000s syndicated reruns(it notably only aired on BET for two weeks in 2010)most episodes did get uploaded to Youtube but several were missing until the show was finally officially released on Tubi in 2022.
  • Out of Order: The season 5 episode "Al's in Toyland" was originally supposed to air on October of 2001 but ended up not airing until after the Series Finale due to NBC having issues with the content of the episode, thinking it would've been insensitive to air it so soon after 9/11. Though the episode did air in it's proper place after "Dances With Malcolm" in all of it's reruns in syndication.
    • As mentioned below the first half of season 4 is made up of episodes originally intended for season three.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The first half of season 4 consists of episodes originally produced for the third season, it was especially noticeable as the episode "Frisky Business" was clearly meant to be the season 4 premiere due to it showing the characters starting a new school year with Chris sporting a new shorter haircut. Tubi has season 4 begin with "Shock Treatment" as opposed to "Kickin it" like official episode guides do.
  • Special Guest: 98 Degrees, one of the groups that became popular during the boy band boom of the late 1990s/early 2000s (although they were eclipsed just a smidge by two little bands called Backstreet Boys and N Sync), guest starred in "Dance Fever," with their appearance driven by Cassidy dating Nick Lachey and Chris and Jamal asking her to get them to play at the dance they're setting up. The group performs their 1998 single "I Do Cherish You" in the episode.
  • The Other Darrin: Chris' father was originally played in season one by Perry Stephens; four seasons later in "Get to Preppin'," he is played by Mark Sivertsen.
