Trivia / Caterpillar

  • Died During Production: The first illustrator for Caterpillar, Isuka Hakozaki, died in April 2013. This led to the manga being put on hiatus until Hayami Tokisada took over in January 2014.
  • Late Export for You: For a long time, this 2012 story was never published in any Western countries. Not even in France like Arachnid. This only changed in 2022 with an official English translation on the online Manga UP! app.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: Murata retweeted two hentai fancomics of Caterpillar that got published at Comiket and went on to create a borderline hentai spinoff of Killing Bites which jokes about other series that placed R34 bans upon their fans.
  • Schedule Slip: The official English translation of Caterpillar for the Manga UP app progressed way ahead of the oddly slow and fragmented one for Arachnid until it got to chapter 93, the ending of the prequel part. The following chapters are a denouement set during and after Arachnid, so, after already spoiling the Boss' identity, the translations seemingly went on hiatus to keep from also completely spoiling the ending of that series. However, after some time the last four chapters were finished anyway while the Arachnid translation was still on chapter 53.
  • What Could Have Been: In the pilot for Caterpillar, both Imomushi and Hotaruga are men. Paraponera goes after Imomushi after his initial defeat, but dies standing up while trying to kill him. This scene is reused, panel by panel, as Paraponera's fate in the final story.
