Tear Jerker / Wolverine and the X-Men (2009)

  • After seeing the mutant passengers to Genosha being mistreated by the crew of the ship, Kurt remembers when he first met Charles Xavier...while being chased down by an angry mob. His clothes are torn and he's clearly terrified as he teleports wildly, trying to find somewhere safe. He eventually crawls into the shadows of an alley, but the mob spots him and closes in on him. Fortunately, Xavier makes the scene before they can do more than grab him up by his collar, but Kurt is still clearly on edge as Xavier approaches him. Even after Xavier promises that he's there to help, Kurt meekly tells him, "I do not believe you. People never want to help me." He sounds like he's on the verge of tears.
  • Emma's Heroic Sacrifice.
    • Notice just before she dies, she gives Scott one last little smile.
  • Angel's story, poor guy.
    • To summarize, Angel is the son of a wealthy family which carries anti-mutant sentiment very hard. The fact that Angel is a mutant has been a driving force for his father trying to find a way to "cure" mutants of their powers against Angel's wishes. After involving a paramilitary force in the affair, Angel was accidentally injured much to his father’s dismay, but rather then recognize his mistake in being so aggressively anti-mutant, his father doubled down. Specifically, rather than have an avian expert brought into to help mend the bones in Angel's wings that had been shattered, his father ordered them amputated. Enraged and hurt beyond words, Angel eventually turned to known supervillain Mister Sinister who offered a way for him to grow back his wings, starting him on the path to become the powerful and dangerous Archangel.
  • Rover's final episode, for Rover himself. Not only does a slapped-together heap of Sentinel parts choose to come back and save the mutants he has been working with, pulling off an awesome Heroic Sacrifice and overriding the Kid With The Remote Control, there's also his final scene, where he manages to overpower his busted voicebox to finally say one word that isn't "Destroy": "Run!"
    • Arguably, Marrow's actions during that episode as well. Sentinels have been her captors as long as she's been alive, yet her connection to Rover is so obviously strong, as is her grief when he gets destroyed. Just what sort of life has she lived that she can consider a rebuilt Sentinel her closest friend?
    • When Xavier gives Wolverine his next update he tells him the information came at a great sacrifice. We also see the rest of the future X-Men sitting around their camp clearly saddened by the loss and Bishop states he was wrong about Rover.
  • The show's version of Nitro. Unlike his comic book counterpart who was a killer for hire, this version has no desire to hurt people and is only dangerous because he can't control his powers. At the end of his one episode appearance, he willingly returns to confinement where he is placed in a special prison to keep him from exploding.
  • Lorna in the Bad Future. By going through her memories Charles discovers Genoshas final day as the city burns down a scared Lorna clings to her father who in a last act of paternal love give her his helmet and sends her to the subasement of Genosha where she will be safe. Her last sigh of her father being him being burned alive.
