- The horribly grim fate of Tim Barnett in "An Apple A Day." He goes through slow, painful metamorphosis into a tree just because he stood up for his grandma against the cruel Bill Cole. Said Grandma already lost her husband to Cole's evil, and now she'll lose her grandson. The manga version actually makes it worse as the poor kid is crying from fear and despair as he realizes what happened to him and his grandfather. The final page shows a half-transformed Tim reaching with his remaining hand toward the sneering Bill Cole, as if in a final act of rage and defiance.
- "Man's Best Friend" has Igor the demon possessed parrot doing everything he can to ruin Ben's life. First he torments Ben by gloating day and night how he murdered the boy's grandpa, then brainwashes Ben's parents into becoming his loyal slaves. The really anger-inducing moment is when Ben's parents turn on the lovable family dog Rex and threaten to send him to the pound.Ben's Mom: wo Pets is one too many. And Rex would be much happier back in the pound with all the other dirty, slobbering, flea ridden hounds.Ben: You can't take him back to the pound. I love Rex, even if you don't!
