Tear Jerker / Sky High (2005)

Go To

  • The moment when Will admitted to his father that he doesn't have any powers, and his father's vehement denial of this, hits home for any "Well Done, Son" Guy.
  • The moment where Layla is near tears by the time Gwen and Penny are done kicking her out of Will's house.
    • It's also heartbreaking for Will having to learn that Gwen treats the 'sidekicks' no different than Lash, Speed, and Penny, especially after he thought of her as a Nice Girl. Especially after he learns she made Layla, his best friend, cry. And then she has the audacity to call Layla and, by extension, Ethan, Magenta, and Zack "losers" right in front of him. That's when it truly hits him that Gwen has been driving him away from his real friends all along.
  • How utterly broken Will is right before the climax. Let's review: he's chased off not one but both his romantic prospects in (literally) under two minutes, been blamed for a Wild Teen Party he never intended to throw, and ostracized himself from all his actual friends in favor of being In with the In Crowd only for them to ditch him too as high school Jerkasses are wont to do. He more or less stops caring for a day or two, and the only person who will actually listen to him is, irony of ironies, Warren. Good thing he looked closely at his dad's yearbook!
Steve Stronghold: We promised Gwen we'd go to the dance! And when a Stronghold makes a promise, son, that promise is kept!
Will Stronghold, voice cracking: I promise you, Dad, I'm not going.
  • Speaking of the devil, let's talk about Warren Peace. The guy is the son of one of the most evil supervillains in the world, which is bad enough to cause stigma amongst his fellow classmates. He's also taking classes, or at least going to school, with the son of his dad's ARCHNEMESIS who humiliated him in a lunch room brawl. Thankfully, he gets better, but still the poor guy has it rough.
  • Everything about Mr. Boy. He was Steve’s sidekick since before Will was born, but everything he’s done to help Steve and Josie seems to go unnoticed and unappreciated. He even has an obvious crush on Josie despite her being married and having a son with Steve. If Steve and Josie were like the heroes in Will’s class, then they probably never thought much of him because he lacked powers.
