- Nina's Body Horror and death are arguably made darker in contrast to the kind of show this is. The fact that she was endearingly wacky beforehand only makes it worse.
- The first half of episode 7 is tear-jerking because of how depressed Ed has gotten. It also makes the military's treatment of his depression downright disgusting.
- In episode 3, we find out why Ed calls alchemy "magic". It's not as funny as you'd expect. Even Ed muttering his Catchphrase afterwards is sad, considering how upset he sounds about the whole thing.Trisha: And Ed, don't keep calling it "alchemy"...it sounds so pretentious...(dies)
