Tear Jerker / Liberal Arts

• The first five minutes shows Jesse being robbed and then dumped by his girlfriend.
• Prof. Hoberg's retirement ceremony is awkward, but for the wrong reasons. He's obviously doubting his decision to retire and his speech is filled with regrets. Worse is a number of fellow faculty members sneering at him. And judging by his reactions after the speech, he knows full well about everything mentioned.
• Jesse learns that Dean made a suicide attempt in the past. When he talks to him before heading back to New York, Dean opens up that he grew up without his father and recounts how his Struggling Single Mother would be proud of him for being in college.
• Prof. Hoberg begging the school head, his former protegee, to allow him to come out of retirement and failing.
• Jesse and Zibby falling out. Zibby's heartbreak after Jesse rejects her is hard to watch. And the reason Jesse rejected her is not because he doesn't love her, but because he realized she has her whole life ahead of her to be in a relationship with a man like him who's approaching middle age.
• Dean calls Jesse one day after his second Bungled Suicide. Jesse is clearly worried and he calls the nearest hospital before flying over to Ohio. Once Jesse gets there, Dean mentions how increasingly unhappy he is.
• Zibby and Jesse's final scene. Even if they ultimately decided they're Better as Friends, Zibby is clearly struggling not to breakdown.
