  • From the prologue and the extended cut: Rexy/Roberta at the drive-in theatre. Even putting aside for a moment the issue of the sheer destruction she's unintentionally wreaking upon the innocent moviegoers, it's quite possibly the only moment in the series thus far where the exiled Queen of Isla Nublar seems genuinely confused and frightened. It's both sobering and saddening to see this majestic apex predator so totally out of her element. How the Mighty Have Fallen, indeed. It also serves as a reminder that Rexy is essentially just a wild animal, but not only is she and the rest of her kingdom are now in an unfamiliar environment, she's also in a completely different time period. To her and her kind, they're now stranded on, what is to them, an alien world. Adding to the fact that she is too big to safely move through her surroundings, Rexy is in no way equipped to handle or adapt to her new environment.
    • Rexy's situation, in general, hasn't been kind to her. When she's finally captured and transported again to Biosyn's Sanctuary, Rexy is forced to scavenge for scraps due to the Giganotosaurus constantly bullying her over food and territory.
  • Maisie's situation is pretty depressing - she's outed to the world as a clone and is thus a fugitive; anyone seeking her out are doing it because she's in their eyes a miracle of science or because her very existence is a major legal inquiry (some states, like California, explicitly outlaw human cloning). Owen and Claire have to hide her in their isolated cabin, effectively cutting her out from the rest of the world. Owen definitely would know that non-confinement and socialization are integral in personal growth and building healthy relations, so the fact that he's enforcing this on his adoptive daughter, even if for her own safety, has got to be real heavy for him. This is especially prevalent given that Maisie is now entering adolescence, the stage in life where she's going to really question who she is and what she's meant to be.
  • After Beta and Maisie are kidnapped, a furious Blue corners Owen. Enraged that her offspring has been taken from her, she lashes out at Owen and slashes her father figure's hand, but thankfully leaves before she could do any more damage.
  • Malta is shown to be a Wretched Hive of Europe and Asia's dinosaur black market. The den has several species captured to serve as either pets, beasts of burden, or fighting dogs. A bunch of compies are seen squirming in a cage too tiny even for them, some Microceratus are squirming in fear when one person grabs one, a young Carnotaurus is muzzled and kept as a pet by someone, and one Baryonyx has a robotic arm. We also see a thriving grill with several cooked meats, and it's no stretch to assume some poor little dinosaurs ended up on the menu.
    • We also see a caged, chained up Stigymoloch, which might be painful for fans of Stiggy from the previous film.
  • Alan is reintroduced as not being happy with his life. He's clearly not over Ellie despite her having married Mark decades ago and has resigned himself to being alone. He's forced to give tours of his dig sites to schools and tourists to pay the bills for his digs - and is shown giving a lecture to some teenage girls who are more interested in their cell phones. Later, when Ellie apologizes for dragging him onto the adventure since he was safe and happy, Alan stops her and admits that he wasn't happy. He's tactful enough to not explain one very big reason he wasn't happy, but it's still sobering nonetheless that Alan has been at his lowest point for years.
  • A bit of Cry for the Devil, but in the case of the Giganotosaurus: unlike the psychotic and murderous Indominus rex and the sadistic serial-killer Indoraptor, the Giganotosaurus was easily the most normal predatory animal in the entire franchise: he bullies Rexy, but with little actual attempt to make lethal combat, realistically gives up on chasing the humans once they put up some resistance and prove themselves more trouble than they're worth, and ultimately only fights Rexy and the Therizinosaurus due to being forced in close quarters with them at the Biosyn sanctuary. As such, despite his antagonistic role, it's hard not to feel even a little bad for him, given he was just acting to survive, with his violent and brutal death being treated as a heroic victory feeling a little unnecessarily cruel for a mere animal trying to live.
  • Dr. Wu revealing the actual truth about Maisie's origins: rather than being created by her grandfather Benjamin Lockwood as a Replacement Goldfish, Maisie was actually created by her mother Charlotte (who was an InGen scientist and Dr. Wu's colleague), as Charlotte desired to combat her infertility in order to have a child. A year following the 1993 incident, Hammond learned about and disapproved of Charlotte's intentions of using the cloning technology to undergo trials of creating a child clone (as he morally opposed human cloning). However, Charlotte refused to give up her dream of having a child, and Lockwood stood by to defend his daughter's actions, thus resulting the fallout between Hammond and Lockwood in the first place. After years of trials, Charlotte succeeded in creating and giving birth to Maisie in 2009, but at the cost of being exposed to a genetic disease that was slowly killing her. Before Charlotte died, she managed to alter Maisie's genome so that her daughter wouldn't be contracted with the disease. To prove his point, Wu shows Charlotte's video diaries about her success after giving birth to Maisie. Wu also reveals that the story of Charlotte dying in a car accident and Lockwood using her DNA to create Maisie was nothing more than a cover-up planted by Lockwood, all just to ensure that no one would criminalize Charlotte for her actions. This eventually made Maisie finally realize how much Grady and Dearing cared for her.
  • Despite all the deaths and destruction he's caused, Wu's situation in this movie is pretty sad. When he's introduced, he no longer has the air of a confident, calculating Mad Scientist. He just looks... broken, complete with long, disheveled hair that looks a lot like a Beard of Sorrow. At this point, he's pretty much lost everything and is essentially being held hostage by Dodgson, who forced him to create the super-locusts that now threaten to cause a global catastrophe. When he escapes and meets up with the heroes, he's reduced to begging desperately for a chance to at least fix his greatest mistake, and when Ian tries to reject him and leave him behind, he doesn't fight back, clearly believing he deserves it. Thankfully, Maisie convinces the others to give him a chance to atone for his actions.
