Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 43 Birth Of The Ignis

Go To

At the end of Playmaker and Revolver's Speed Duel, Playmaker discovers who Revolver might be in the real world after the latter mentions Stardust Road. However, a shockwave generated by the Data Storm forces them both out of LINK VRAINS. Yusaku and Kusanagi then head over to Revolver's residence and confront him. His real name revealed to be Ryoken Kogami, Revolver discloses to the pair the truth about the Lost Incident/Hanoi Project and the Ignis created by his father.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Big "OMG!": Ai drops an "Oh my God!" when Yusaku points out that the Tower of Hanoi can't be stopped without Revolver.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Invoked by Playmaker. While he was unable to inflict significant damage towards Revolver with Excode Talker due to Mirror Force, he nevertheless is able to Special Summon Restoration Pointguard with its own Effect, and attacks Revolver directly with it to shave off 1000 LP from him.
  • Human Sacrifice: Subverted. While Revolver forced a DRAW between him and Playmaker, neither of them are absorbed by the Tower of Hanoi, as a Data Storm shockwave forces both of them out of LINK VRAINS.
  • Infodump: The first half of the episode focuses on Ryoken disclosing to Yusaku and Kusanagi the truth about the Lost Incident/Hanoi Project and the Ignis that were created by Kogami.
  • Irony: Ryoken/Revolver, who would come to be Yusaku's enemy ten years after the Lost Incident, was the one who motivated Yusaku with the "three reasons" mantra, and gave him the strength to move forward to a new path. Ryoken himself lampshades this trope.
"How ironic. I'm your enemy, but I gave you strength."
  • The Reveal: Ryoken (aka Revolver) was the same individual who motivated Yusaku with the "three reasons" Survival Mantra back when the latter was held captive during the Lost Incident. Ryoken comes to regret this, however.
  • Saying Too Much: Yusaku wouldn't have figured out the whereabouts of Revolver in the real world had the latter not mentioned Stardust Road.
  • The Unfettered: Revolver refuses to stop the Tower of Hanoi, and will do whatever it takes to ensure Kogami's wishes are fulfilled, even if it means the end of humanity.
  • Villainous BSoD: Revolver is visibly devastated over the death of his father.
  • Worthy Opponent: Revolver sees Playmaker as one, and looks forward to an enjoyable final Duel.
