Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 44 Prisoner Of Destiny

Go To

Having learned the truth hidden by the Ignis and the truth behind the Lost Incident, Playmaker tries to persuade Revolver to stop the Tower of Hanoi. Unfortunately, his words fail to convince Revolver. Having been driven into a corner, Playmaker entrusts all his hopes to his new ace monster!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Captain Obvious: Again, Ai feels the need to point out that Link Monsters are a poor matchup against Mirror Force (which destroys all Attack Position Monsters its controller's opponent controls) since they cannot be in Defense Position.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Revolver attempts to exploit this, insisting that neither he or Playmaker are able to walk a new path because they are chained to the pains of the Lost Incident/Hanoi Project, and vows to sever said chains immediately.
  • No-Sell:
    • Invoked by Playmaker, who, in combination with Shield Handler (equipped onto Excode Talker), positions his Code Talkers in a way that will ensure none of them are destroyed by his opponent's card Effects.
    • Revolver uses Link Turret to ensure his Topologic Bomber Dragon won't be destroyed by battle on the same turn it's activated.
  • Title Drop: Impressively, both the Japanese and the dub do this at the same moment in the episode; right at the climax after Revolver has destroyed all of Playmaker's monsters:
    • In the Japanese version, Revolver tells Playmaker that they are prisoners of destiny.
    • In the dub, the episode title is "Illusion of Hope"; Varis tells Playmaker that his hope was always an illusion.
