While Yami Yugi prepares to face Kaiba in Duel Monsters, Jonouchi and Miho face an obstacle of their own. Ryuichi Fuwa and Aileen Rao are guarding Sugoroku and Honda, and to free them they'll have to win a real-life fighting game. Aileen and Jonouchi are given battle armor, and Ryuichi and Miho control them with a console. The first team to run out of energy loses. Aileen beats Jonouchi up relentlessly, while Miho flounders at the controls.
Ryou makes it back in time to catch the start of the match, after which Kaiba uses a magic card combo to make Saggi the Dark Clown powerful. Yugi draws an Exodia piece and is forced to defend against Saggi, as none of his monsters are strong enough. Meanwhile, Jonouchi and Aileen are having a more even fight until a spinning kick move stuns Aileen, but drains the suit's power so his body can't move. Back at the duel, Yugi draws and summons Gaia the Fierce Knight, who destroys Saggi, but Kaiba draws one Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and then another, and Honda and Yugi's grandpa are ready to drown. Anzu cheering for Yugi helps him remember his friends, and he draws the Swords of Sealing Light to stall until he can get the rest of Exodia.
When the swords run out Kaiba summons his third Blue-Eyes, seemingly clinching his victory. Yugi's deck senses his doubt, but the support from his friends helps him draw. Meanwhile, Jonouchi takes a final uppercut and loses to Aileen, but remembering his friends helps him stand up and rejuvenates his energy, and he's able to defeat her. At the same time, Yami Yugi summons Exodia, who destroys the dragons in one hit as Kaiba loses the duel.
Yami gives Kaiba a Mind Crush so he can rid his heart of darkness and leaves after explaining it to Mokuba. His friends arrive, weary, but safe... except for Ryou Bakura. Yami Bakura emerges for the first time, impressed with how Yugi beat Kaiba, and decides he's a worthy opponent...
This episode contains examples of:
- Adapted Out: Several monsters from the manga's version of this duel are left out. On Yugi's end, Sangan, Horn Imp, Beaver Warrior and Dark Magician are missing from the duel. On Kaiba's end, Judge Man is left out.
- Bait-and-Switch Credits: The Black Magician/Dark Magician shows up in the opening, yet despite this being his debut in the manga, he's strangely absent in this version of the duel. He had to wait until the movie for a proper animated debut.
- The Power of Friendship: This is invoked three times in five minutes to help Yugi draw the cards he needs and to help Jonouchi win against Aileen.
