This volume contains the following tropes:
- An Ice Person: Yoshino is a spirit that controls the forms of water, specifically ice.
- Poor Communication Kills: Much of Shido's conflict with Tohka during this volume could have been avoided if he'd told her sooner that Yoshino was a Spirit like her (to be fair, Tohka stubbornly refused to listen to several of his previous attempts).
- Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Yoshino shoots ice daggers at Tohka
- Split Personality: Yoshino has a split personality named Yoshinon, which only will manifest when she has her puppet
- What Is This Feeling?: Tohka spends much of the volume acting incredibly bitter toward Shido over his apparent obsession with Yoshino (it didn’t help that Yoshinon insinuated that he was bored of her), but she doesn’t understand just why seeing their Accidental Kiss is pissing her off so much. She relents after learning that Yoshino is also a Spirit who Shido is trying to save like her, and asks that he continue to do so for any future Spirits, but also asks that he not kiss them (not understanding that this is the final step to sealing their powers) because seeing it brings up an odd sense of displeasure.
