Clay's father, unimpressed by the Xiaolin training, decides to take his son back to Texas. But trouble arises when the family heirloom turns out to be an inactive Shen Gong Wu!

- Calling the Old Man Out: Clay eventually gets tired of Daddy Bailey's nitpicking and tells him to button up. This actually impresses his father.
- Easily Impressed: Kimiko is beside herself with amazement when she successfully ropes a cow, even calling a friend just to share the experience. She still seems to be having fun even as the cow starts dragging her away.
- Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Clay's father at first dissapproves about him being a Xiaolin monk.
- Hypocritical Humor: When Jacks asks Wuya why they can't have as good a relationship like Clay and Daddy Bailey, she says she is not his mommy, right before telling him to pick up his toys since they are going home.
- MacGuffin: The Star Hanabi. Unlike the other Shen Gong Wu thus far, nothing is said about its powers, which won't be revealed for a few more episodes.
- Making a Splash: The Orb of Tornami, which would later become Omi's signature Shen Gong Wu.
- Once an Episode: The "Star in A Haystack" Xiaolin Showdown pitting Clay against Jack for the Star Hanabi. Both competitors ride flying saddles to retrieve the Star hidden in a huge haystack, with Clay's Serpent's Tail versus Jack's Sword of the Storm; Clay wins after Jack gets hit in mid-air with Bessie thanks to the tornado he caused with the Sword.
- Running Gag: Omi's failed attempts to milk Bessie.
- So Proud of You: Daddy Bailey realizes that Clay has been a man much longer than he realized after he stood up to him and tells him to shut up and let him do things his own way. This is also played for laughs at the end of the episode after Omi finally manages to milk Bessie and Daddy Bailey and Clay both say Omi is a true cowboy.
- Stating the Simple Solution: Daddy Bailey suggests simply charging Jack while he's a few feet away, but Clay ducks his head while doing so and Jack merely flies out of range and douses Clay with the Orb of Tornami.
- Worthy Opponent: Omi declares Bessie to be one after constantly failing to milk her.
