Voltron and the Atlas engage Galra troops in combat and successfully capture the base, finding their old acquaintance Lahn at the helm. Lahn is reluctant to ally with them again following their perceived abandonment, but eventually agrees to go with them to answer a cryptic call from a couple of returning cruisers from his fleet. The cruisers are seemingly abandoned and the crew splits up to find survivors. Pidge, Allura, and Lahn deduce that a monster attacked the crew just as it chances upon Lance and Hunk. The monster attacks Keith, who recognizes it as a weapon Ranveig developed to rid of his Galra enemies but was unable to control. The team plans to blow up the ship to take the monster down but wind up engaging it in combat; they escape with just enough time to spare after Keith manages to summon a powerful gun with his bayard.
On the base, Keith suggests that the Atlas continue with the mission of working with the Galra while Voltron goes to fight Honerva's Robeasts.
Tropes:
- The Bus Came Back: Lieutenant Lahn (now Warlord Lahn) returns in this episode, his first appearance being at the start of Season 6.
- The monster is noted to be the superweapon from the base where Keith first met up with his mother Krolia.
- Deus Exit Machina: Cosmo becomes injured shortly before Keith and Lahn are locked in with the beast, forcing a solution to the problem other than simply teleporting.
- Fire-Forged Friends: Warlord Lahn and the Paladins finally make peace with each other over the course of the episode.
- It Can Think: The monster certainly puts the super in super weapon. To wit it can:
- Move incredibly fast and hard for a creature its size.
- Drain a Galra cruiser’s energy crystal and grow even stronger.
- Access their tech to surveil its enemies and disrupt their communications.
- And use a dead sentry as a trap and use said sentry to speak.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Lahn points out that as royalty, Allura had everything she wanted/needed handed to her, unlike the hard-knock life of a Galra soldier.
- Shut Up, Kirk!: After observing Lahn lamenting his losses, Allura attempts to give a "Not So Different" Remark to him. However, Lahn swiftly rebukes her, stating that unlike the Galra, who have to earn everything they have through their own strength, Allura was given everything by others.
