Recap / Two Sentence Horror Stories S2 E2 "Elliot"

Go To

I don't have many friends.
That's why I keep their bodies in the basement.

Elliot, a teenage trans boy, has to endure transphobic acts every day in his backwards-minded town. One day, when he retreats to the school's abandoned hallway, he meets a janitor who offers him a relic she claims will be able to defend him, but he must give up something precious to him.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unknown if Elliot is affected by the janitor continuing to haunt him despite the Dolor Ocarina's destruction, but he seems well enough to live to old age.
  • And I Must Scream: The previous two LGBT students trapped by the janitor are alive, but cannot escape their confinement.
  • Asshole Victim: Every single person whom Elliot tortures using the Dolor Ocarina are transphobic assholes receiving their just deserts.
  • Brown Note: Elliot is given the Dolor Ocarina, an instrument which can make people experience the pain he feels from what they did to him when it's blown.
  • Deal with the Devil: Elliot makes a trade with the janitor, giving her his musical book in exchange for the Dolor Ocarina. It's revealed that the two missing students of the school were also offered the ocarina, and they are queer; the janitor specifically targets queer students who don't belong in the socially conservative school.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Refusing to succumb to the janitor's urges, Elliot breaks the Dolor Ocarina and therefore prevents the janitor from claiming more victims, even though this means he will have no way to defend himself from being heckled for being trans. However, he ends up freeing the two queer students previously trapped by the janitor, and the trio become close friends. Even if Elliot continues to endure transphobia, he no longer feels lonely anymore.
  • Emotion Eater: The janitor literally feeds on people's pain, first giving bullied kids an instrument which can make them feel what their tormentors inflicted, and then feeding on theirs as she keeps them prisoner.
  • Glamour: The janitor is actually a demonic spirit, but she masks her true form to entice students to get close with her.
  • Jerkass: The entire student body, as well as the principal and most of the teachers. The only one who is kind to Elliot is Mr. Ortiz, the music teacher; while he briefly calls him by his previous name, Elsa, it's an honest mistake, and he apologizes for it.
  • Karmic Jackpot: For deciding to do the right thing, Elliot gains two lifelong friends. The school gets a new principal, so he no longer has to deal with Principal Meyers' taunting. The ending shows that he is happy enough to live to old age.
  • Meaningful Name: "Dolor Ocarina" means the "Ocarina of Pain".
  • Sadist Teacher: Principal Meyer shamelessly taunts Elliot for being trans, then tries to murder him with a pipe.
  • Sobriquet Sex Switch: Elliot's deadname was Elsa, quite similar to his now.
  • Trans Tribulations: Elliot's town is socially conservative, so he is heckled by virtually the entire school body every day for being trans. Even the principal regards him as a freak.
  • Which Bathroom Dilemma: Elliot can be seen briefly stopping when faced with the bathrooms, choosing the men's after a moment of hesitation. He then gets harassed for doing so by the principal inside as he's trans, and flees.
