The Insecticons form a global swarm that threatens to consume Earth's food supply. The Autobots send a team to the planet Floron III to retrieve a can of robotic insecticide to stop them. However, the spores of an alien plant latch themselves onto Cosmos and grow into monstrous plants once they arrive on Earth.
Tropes:
- Alien Kudzu: The Morphobots start off as a series of spores and quickly become a forest of giant mechanical flowers that take over an entire valley. Optimus himself admits they probably would've covered the entire planet if they hadn't launched them back into space in time.
- Distressed Dude: Cosmos has his power drained by the rapidly-growing Morphobots and crash lands when he arrives back on Earth. Cosmos is soon wrapped up by the Morphobots' vines, and the Autobots launch a rescue mission to get him back before he's devoured.
- Man-Eating Plant: Well, more like mecha-eating plants, since the Morphobots seem to show a preference for eating mechanical beings. They make very quick work devouring the Insecticons by consuming the entire swarm save the original Shrapnel, Bombshell, and Kickback.
- Not So Above It All: When one of Starscream's blasts ricochets off the Morphobot and knocks him on his ass, the normally stoic Soundwave joins in with Megatron at laughing at his misfortune.
- Something We Forgot: By the end of the episode, the Insecticons have been defeated and the Morphobots are launched into space to populate another planet. All seems well... until Perceptor calls Prime about the Morphobot sample he was studying now growing out of control:Perceptor: I could use some help in the lab. Incidentally, I hope there's another spaceship available. Real soon.
- Tempting Fate: After Megatron destroys the robotic insecticide, Optimus swears that he'll never get away with it. Megatron asks who will stop him, only for a Morphobot to grab him and try to tear him apart.
- Villainous Rescue: The Morphobots, which have spent most of the episode trying to attack everything that gets within their reach, end up being the ones to save the day by devouring the Insecticon clones and stopping their scheme to consume Earth's food supply.Bumblebee: You know, I hate to admit it, but the Morphobots saved the day.
Spike: Yeah, in a way, I guess they're heroes.
