Recap / Transformers G 1 Chaos

Go To

Kup leads a team of Autobots to investigate a ship that has crash-landed on Goo, but is horrified when he discovers the Decepticons have gotten their hands on powerful death crystals. Kup reveals that thousands of years ago he was forced to mine for death crystals on the planet Dread and nearly met his end at the hand of the monster Chaos. Forced to face the demons of his past, Kup returns to Dread and must stop the Decepticons... and face off against Chaos once more.

Tropes

  • Animation Bump: This one of the better animated episodes out of season three and the show overall. The character designs are detailed and well-shaded, and there very few Off-Model errors.
  • Crystalline Creature: Chaos is a giant monster made out of crystals that terrorizes the planet Dread. The crystals it sheds are among the hardest substances in the universe and are capable of piercing any material.
  • My Greatest Failure: When Kup was enslaved on Dread, he had a chance to free the other slaves while making his escape attempt. When Chaos appeared, Kup was so terrified that he fled and abandoned the rest of the slaves to their fate. In present day, Kup never forgave himself for his cowardice and tries to avoid talking about Chaos when he can.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: After abandoning the slaves on Dread thousands of years ago, Kup gets a chance to redeem himself when he returns to the planet to stop the Decepticons. He successfully frees the slaves this time around and finally destroys Chaos after fleeing in terror from the beast when they first met.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The giant nigh-invulnerable beast terrorizing the Dread is rather aptly-named Chaos. A fitting name for a creature that's traumatized Kup for all these years.
  • Quicksand Sucks: Dread is filled with "quick-mud" that sucks up anything that wanders into it. Kup recounts how he lured a Ick-Yak into some quick-mud to get away from it. Later on, Blurr nearly sinks into a pool of quick-mud himself until he's rescued by Sky Lynx.
  • Series Continuity Error: The Autobots investigate a crashed shuttle on the planet Goo at the start of the episode. However, Goo was last seen being blown apart by Galvatron in "Five Faces of Darkness".
  • Sickly Green Glow: Chaos and the death crystals it sheds have a bright green glow around them. This glow is often the first indicator that Chaos is arriving, and terrifies Kup and the slaves when they see it approaching.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Kup destroys Chaos by firing a cannon that uses the very same death crystals it sheds as ammunition.
