Wil and Mareth manage to return to the present with the Warlock Lord's skull, but Bandon overpowers them and escapes with it. The Crimson move against Ander during his and Lyria's wedding.
- All for Nothing: Everything Wil and Mareth went through to get the skull for Bandon in return for Flick's life turns out to be this, since Flick chooses to die rather than let Bandon win... and his sacrifice is also for nothing, since Bandon still manages to get away with the skull.
- The Bad Guy Wins: Bandon manages to make off with the Warlock Lord's skull after Wil and Mareth retrieved it, and Riga kills Ander.
- Battle in the Center of the Mind: Cogline warns Eretria that her most difficult fight is likely going to be one of these, trying to defend her free will against the Warlock Lord.
- Heroic Suicide: Flick impales himself on Bandon's sword rather than be used as a bargaining chip against Wil.
- Hope Spot: Ander has Riga against the ropes, looking to be about to decapitate him. Then Riga manages to use Ander's insecurities against him, stab him in the side, and go back on the offensive.
- Wedding Smashers: The Crimson invade Ander and Lyria's wedding ceremony, with Riga starting out impersonating the priest.
- Wham Episode: At the end of the episode, the Sword of Shannara has been shattered, Flick is dead, Bandon has everything he needs to resurrect the Warlock Lord, Allanon is infected with a fatal poison, and Ander is likely mortally wounded.
- Wrecked Weapon: The Sword of Shannara shatters as Wil uses it against Bandon. Especially demoralising since a) Allanon claimed that it was "only as strong as its wielder," so this says something depressing about the place that Wil is in right now, and b) it's the only weapon that can defeat the Warlock Lord, whom Bandon is about to restore to life.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Tamlin decides that her alliance with Riga no longer serves its purpose and sends Jax to kill him. Unfortunately, Riga is not so easy to kill and gets the better of Jax.
