Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 1 E 7 Like Looking In A Mirror

Go To

A bank robber in Canterlot displays the power to create duplicates of others. Twilight recognizes the robber as a scientist she knows, Doctor Positine. She and the others decide to investigate why a respectable and well-mannered scientist would suddenly turn to a life of crime.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It isn't clear why Positine's machine makes duplicates that are the exact opposite of the original. Trixie guesses it is because he used a mirror for the device, since mirrors reflect "the opposite of the original". Nobody really buys this theory, but they don't offer any suggestions of their own either.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Flash tells some pretty obvious lies while trying to coverup his Secret Identity to Twilight. When she sees the green flash when he transforms back to normal from Riot-Horn, he claims the beeping she heard was a car driving by and the green flash was just caused from the sunset, even though Twilight knows the sunset only causes a "green flash" moments before the sun completely vanishes.
    • After Negatine is defeated, Twilight wonders where Flash is. Shining claims he ran out trying to escape from his double during the brawl. Negatine however says in confusion that he never made a duplicate of Flash in the fight, but Shining counters by saying Negatine made so many he must have lost track of them.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Flash easily defeats the duplicate of his human form by turning into Riot-Horn and squashing his duplicate.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Flash is trying to figure out which alien is best for taking on Negatine, he knows most of his aliens would get spotted right away, and complains that any alien could make things worse if their reflection is cast. He then realizes Chamalien is his only hope since his invisibility will prevent Negatine from seeing his reflection and making a duplicate of him.
  • Foreshadowing: At the end of the chapter, Flash wonders what the Omnitrix was originally designed for and who created it. This of course alludes to Azmuth, the creator of the Omnitrix from Ben 10.
  • Logical Weakness: Negatine can only duplicate someone if he can cast their reflection, so Chamalien is pretty much immune to this thanks to his invisibility.
  • Meaningful Name: Doctor Positine's Evil Twin duplicate, due to being the exact opposite of Positine, names himself Negatine.
  • Mirror Match: This is pretty much enforced by Negatine, since he uses the machine to create evil duplicates of anyone he casts a reflection of.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: After all the trouble his device caused, Positine decides the world isn't ready for this kind of technology. He decides he can still write a paper on it, explaining how it works, but will never try to rebuild it himself.
