Felix takes exception to Oscar's joke column insulting New York and tries to show him the good side of the city...only for the two of them to end up trapped in a stalled subway car.
This episode includes examples of the following tropes:
- Big Rotten Apple: Oscar's annoyed with the city, so Felix takes him out on the town to show him that New York isn't a completely lost cause. Of course they get stuck in the subway.
- Delivery Guy: Played with; when the subway riders realize the dog really is about to give birth, they ask Felix what to do to help her. Felix tells Oscar in private that animals know how to give birth on their own, but he plays along with it upon seeing that their concern is bringing the riders together.
- Hand Puppet: Determined to make the best of their predicament, Felix makes a hand puppet out of his handkerchief, calling it "Harvey Hankey." Oscar finds it humiliating.
- Hypocritical Heartwarming: Despite his own irritation with his roommate, Oscar scalds the subway riders who are giving him trouble and says that Felix is the only person trying to improve the situation.
- Lovable Coward: Oscar tells a joke about how "last night, I saw three cops standing in our lobby. They were afraid to go outside." Murray quickly protests that he was cold.
- Mistaken for Gay: When the train stops abruptly, Oscar ends up leaning on the man sitting next to him. Said man turns to him and asks, "What are you, one of the glitter people?"
- Obfuscating Disability: The pencil-selling blind man turns out to have his sight still. He uses dark glasses and his brother's dog to pose as a blind man whenever he needs some petty cash.
- Precious Puppies: One of the passengers in the trapped subway car is a pregnant dog, who gives birth partway through the ordeal. At the end, Felix presents Oscar with one of her puppies.
