Go To

When Oscar gets the chance to write for the Herald's Sunday supplement, Felix feels overjoyed for his friend and determined to prove himself worthy of taking photos for the event. While Oscar eventually agrees, he comes to regret it when Felix hits it off with a visiting Asian wrestler and convinces him to quit the sport for his health.

This episode includes examples of the following trope:

  • Asian Speekee Engrish: A Chinese wrestler whom Oscar sponsors and Felix wants to photograph speaks English, but with a heavy accent. Especially hilarious when he and Miss Lee drop by their place the night before they return to China, with bags of food in hand, to have dinner with them. Among some of the goodies they bring over are "rocks" (complete with cream cheese and bagels) and "cheese brintzes."
  • Don't Explain the Joke: When Miss Lee, a lovely young Asian woman introduced as the runner-up Miss Hong Kong, comes in, Oscar quips that the judges must have been blindfolded if they picked her as the runner-up. He tries to explain for a few moments before being pushed to one side and cutting himself off.
  • Exact Words: The night before they return to China, Chuk and Miss Lee bring over "food Chinese people like" to share with Felix and Oscar. The pair are confused when they find lox, bagels, and cheese blintzes.
    Chuk: I love Italian food!
  • The Idealist: Oscar attempts to get Felix to lie to the wrestler and tell him he was mistaken about the sport's impact on his tricky shoulder. After Oscar tells Felix the paper wants to fire him, Felix does end up doing it, but he feels so guilty about it that he cries, and later he can't stand the guilt, and goes and tells the truth.
  • Informed Ability: Oscar claims that Buzzy Allen is a champ at taking sports photos, but what little we see of him doesn't support it. He's so dependent on alcohol he can barely function, let alone take great pictures.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Buzzy Allen is known as "Boozy" due to his drinking habit.
  • Missing the Good Stuff: Felix tries to take a reaction shot of Oscar as he watches a ballgame and snaps the flash during an important moment. Oscar tries to watch the replay - and Felix accidentally sets off the flash in his eyes again.
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: When Miss Lee offers a wreath and some kind words to Chuk, nobody can understand what she's saying (the Americans because they don't speak Chinese and Chuk because she speaks a different dialect). Felix turns out to speak that dialect, despite it never having been mentioned before.
