Lisbon is looking forward to leaving the FBI's Austin offices and moving to Washington with Pike when a letter from a killer the Bureau failed to catch forces her to change her plans. The team travels to Miami and... is Jane acting weirder than usual?

This episode marks the last appearance of Emily Swallow as Agent Kim Fischer.

Tropes that apply to this episode:

  • Criminal Mind Games: A letter from the killer of a prominent Miami socialite taunts the FBI and sets off the episode's plot. It's a twofold gambit from Jane to catch the real killer and to prevent Lisbon from moving to DC.
  • Food Slap: In Lisbon's defence, Jane did deserve it.
  • Grand Staircase Entrance: Jane visibly loses his breath at the hotel dinner when Lisbon makes her entrance.
  • Love Confession: Jane does a very emotional one towards the end of the episode
Jane: " You're right. I have forgotten how to act like a normal human being. And I play games and I lie and I trick people to avoid the truth of how I feel. And the idea of letting anyone close to me is terrifying for obvious reasons, but the truth, Teresa, is that I can't imagine waking up, knowing that I won't see you. The truth is... I love you. [looks around relieved] Whew! You can't imagine how good it feels to say that out loud, but it scares me... and it is the truth. It is the truth of what I feel."
  • Lighter and Softer: In comparison to previous season finales (all of which centered around Red John), this episode is more colorful and lighthearted in tone. It also ends on a happy note.
  • Loser Gets the Girl: Jane gets arrested by airport security, but finally gets together with Lisbon.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Both Abbot & Lisbon accuse Jane of being this. Justified as while Jane has usually resorted to tricking people in the past, he has never resorted to openly playing with Lisbon's feelings like this. In effect, the FBI became Unwitting Pawns in Jane's plan.
Abbot:"He stood in my office, looked me in the eye, and lied to me, and I bought it."
