Recap / The Goldbergs S 9 E 6 The Hunt For The Great Albino Pumpkin

Go To

A Plot: It's Adam's first Halloween after Pops died, so he doesn't feel like going in costume this year. He then goes on to have the worst Halloween of his life when Pop-Pop drags him along to find a stolen pumpkin.

B Plot: Joanne has no idea that Barry is also "Big Tasty", which makes Barry realize he hasn't dropped sick rhymes in ages. Inspired by his dorm neighbor playing "Monster Mash" all day long, Barry comes upon the idea to make a Halloween rap that will make him famous, and plans to pitch it to none other than Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

Tropes:

  • As Herself: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is actually billed as such in the credits, rather than by her real name, Cassandra Peterson.
  • Cheap Costume: Pop-Pop's costumes for him and Adam are just garbage bags. They're not supposed to be anything, they just wear garbage bags.
  • Coordinated Clothes: Before deciding to not go to the school Halloween party, Adam and his friends were supposed to go as the cast of Rocky, with Adam as Rocky, Brea as Adrian, and Matt Scherneke as Mickey. In the end, after Pop-Pop confesses to his Snipe Hunt, Adam's passion is reignited and he ends up attending as Rocky after all.
  • Cue the Rain: After antagonizing people over a missing pumpkin and gathering two weeks of toilet paper from a tree, Adam notes how the night couldn't get any worse...and then it starts raining just long enough for him and Pop-Pop to retreat into a phone booth and call Beverly to tell her that he's having the worst Halloween ever, accidentally hurting Pop-Pop's feelings in the process.
  • Halloween Episode: In which Adam unwillingly goes trick-or-treating with Pop-Pop, and Barry tries to compose a holiday-themed song in order to reignite his old passion for rap.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Beverly knew it was Adam on the phone because he should have come back home hours ago.
  • Piss-Take Rap: It's the return of Big Tasty! This time he tries to come up with a Halloween rap about a "Monster Train." We don't hear much of it, but from the comments about it by other characters, it doesn't seem to make much sense.
  • Snipe Hunt: It turns out Pop-Pop never had an albino pumpkin; he made the whole thing up as an excuse to make Adam go trick-or-treating because he felt sorry for him.
  • Toilet Paper Prank: Pop-Pop runs into a tree covered in toilet paper and decides to take it all so he can have free TP.
