Recap / The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air S 2 E 18 Ill Will

Go To

Will fears the scalpel when he enters the hospital for a tonsillectomy, while the family fears a steamy exposé when Geoffrey begins to write his memoirs.

  • Afraid of Doctors: For Will. More specifically, he's afraid of the surgery he'll need, to the point that he escapes the hospital and hides at home to avoid it.
  • Dirty Old Man: Will's roommate at the hospital keeps a "lucky hat" that he regularly drops so he can watch nurses pick it up for him.
  • Embarrassing Hospital Gown: Will has to have his tonsils out, and while in the hospital, he is embarrassed by the gown, especially after a nurse catches a glimpse of him and quips. "It's Showtime at The Apollo!" He eventually ends up wearing another gown backward to cover himself.
  • Playing Sick: At first Phil thinks that Will is doing this trope to get out of going to school. But, when he opens his mouth and shows that his throat really does look bad, Phil jumps back in disgust and realizes that Will isn't kidding.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Will mishears a nurse's explanation of where his roommate went ("He went to a better place.") The fact that his roommate could Face Death with Dignity gives Will the courage to go through his tonsillectomy. Later it's revealed that the roommate is still alive; by "better place", the nurse meant he was going to a better nursing home.
  • Sick Episode: Will spends the episode in the hospital due to infected tonsils.
