Recap / The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air S 1 E 15 Deck The Halls

Go To

This is Will’s first Christmas in Bel-Air. He doesn’t really enjoy much of the decorations and Ashley doesn’t really hav much Christmas spirit. Will helps Ashley get into the holiday spirit by decorating the house.

This episode contains the following tropes

  • As Himself: Evander Holyfield
  • Celebrity Lie: While Will calls Hilary out on supposedly knowing celebrities, this is the episode that proves it's an aversion, with her being a close friend of champion boxer Evander Holyfield and Ronald Reagan.
  • Christmas Episode: This episode obviously.
  • Cold Ham: Vic, the salesman at the avant-garde Christmas decorations shop.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Ashley. She's the only one of her friends who doesn't go away for the holidays and fills her time instead by learning a new word everyday. At least until Will lifts her spirits.
  • Over The Top Christmas Decorations: Will, annoyed by the family's subtle and boring Christmas decorations and Ashley not being into the holiday spirit, has himself, her and Geoffrey decorate the house extravagantly, with lots of lights, snowmen, trees, wreaths and even putting tinsel onto the living room telephone. Their neighbors were not amused by the "K-Mart look".
  • Shout-Out: The ending has Will looking forward to seeing a commercial for the well-known Norelco shaver where Santa Claus rides on it. To this, Uncle Phil agrees with him and also mentions one of his other favorites is the Budweiser commercial featuring the horses with the furry feet. Then President Reagan admits his favorite commercial is the (non-Christmas related) Chuck Wagon dog food commercials where it drags the food across the kitchen floor.
