Chapter 83: Rule of Three

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Pedro's defining trait is that he is always lost in his own head, often daydreaming and wondering about random things. The most focus he ever has is when he's drawing something.
  • Cool Big Sis: While Karla is only the oldest triplet by fifteen minutes, she is the most active of the three and is very protective of her siblings.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Astrid decides to have Snotlout guard Fishleg's wedding cake, knowing that the Twins will forgo any basic sense of decency and try to eat it. It's when Hiccup pointed it out does Astrid realize she should have picked someone other than Snotlout, since he's the other person that the cake needs protecting from.
  • Grandparent Favoritism: Stoick seems to make for a more natural grandfather than he did a father, doting on all of his grandchildren.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: All three of their kids had inherited Hiccup and Mirabel's artistic talents. Stoick in particular compares his grandkids to Hiccup since they each embody three of his quirks: the manic energy (Karla), the attention span of a sparrow (Pedro), and the crippling anxiety (Peep).
  • Master of Illusion: Sofia's gift is generating illusions when she sings.
  • Me's a Crowd: Ever the Narcissist, Diego's gift is the ability to create clones of himself.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Peep has a pathological fear of... well, everything. Even the things she loves, like her family, she's a little afraid of.
