Scum Bites
Maggie challenges Dawn on the school's charity fund drive selling Scum Bites candy.
Tropes:
- The Bad Guy Wins: Not only did Maggie end up selling less than Dawn despite all the trouble she caused, Maggie also had to repair all the damage done to Stickyfeet and Dawn got an even bigger & better boombox than the one that was being offered as a prize.
- Didn't Think This Through: As Rayna keeps trying to warn her, locusts aren’t allowed to have Scum Bites for a reason and Maggie soon finds out what happens when there’s not enough to keep them satisfied.
- Door-to-Door Episode: Maggie and Dawn compete to see who can sell the most candy door-to-door.
- Game Show Host: Principal Peststrip announces the candy fundraiser as well as its grand prize like the host of a game show, with Mrs. Wingston as the Lovely Assistant.
- Giant Novelty Check: Dawn receives one as payment for a Scum Bites order from Maggie’s own parents.
- Honest John's Dealership: Dawn basically acts like a sleazy and manipulative used car salesman to sell Scum Bites, to great success.
- Literal Metaphor: Maggie references the saying, “the early bird gets the worm,” right before she knocks on the door of a very grumpy earthworm.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Maggie was so determined to beat Dawn that she allowed locusts to wreak havoc on the entire town.
- Overreacting Airport Security: Maggie says Scum Bites are “the bomb” and promptly gets tackled by security.Maggie: It’s a figure of speech!
- Suddenly Shouting: Maggie does this when her dad asks her if she’d like one of the Scum Bites he bought from her rival.Maggie: No thanks, I’ve already got FIVE THOUSAND BOXES!
- The Swarm: A swarm of locusts so big that it blocks out the sun descends on Maggie’s house when they find out she’s willing to sell them Scum Bites.
- Tempting Fate: Maggie literally asks “what could possibly go wrong?” several times throughout the episode, and she certainly finds out.
- Traveling Salesman Montage: Maggie gets a door slammed in her face at every house she visits while trying to sell Scum Bites, including her own.
- The Triple: When Principal Peststrip is getting the students hyped for the annual fundraiser, he asks if they want new athletic equipment for the gym, better food in the cafeteria, and…a big screen TV in the teacher’s lounge. Bet you can guess which one they weren’t excited about.
- Your Head A-Splode: Dawn makes Maggie so angry that her head literally explodes.
