An Ice Monster in a Snowless World

Directed by: Roy Burdine

Written by: Jesse Porter

Tim the Ice Monster has climbed out of the Netherworld portal, only to find himself beginning to melt in the desert heat. While Puss tries to find a way to stop him from melting to death, Dulcinea decides to help him with his bucket list.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Time Period: Tim laments that he never got to visit Pompeii, to which Puss remarks the city was destroyed about 1,000 years ago, giving a vague era for the show sometime after the 1000s, and correlating with an earlier statement that the year 1829 is hundreds of years in the future.
  • Call-Back: When preparing to fight the Spiritus Nimbosa, Puss gives his qualification do so by mentioning that he's slayed the Devil Wind.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Li'l Pequeña's first appearance is in this episode. The closest thing she gets to a line is her grossed-out reaction mirroring Esme's when Kid Pickles mentions his bed would have probably been wet even if Tim hadn't slept in it to get an item off his bucket list.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Puss' plan to save Tim is to make it cold by blotting out the sun. He eventually accomplishes that by summoning a demon blizzard.
  • Excuse Me While I Multitask: While Puss is fighting off some thieves, he becomes distracted by the much greater threat the Netherworld portal represents and spends the fight focusing on it, but still effectively fighting the thieves off.
  • Heart Drive: When Tim finally melts, all that's left of him is a small crystal. Artephius realizes that it's Tim's spirit crystal; if it is returned to the Arctic, Tim can be restored.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: While the Spiritus Nimbosa is successful in restoring Tim to his full size, he decides to step in to save San Lorenzo from its destructive nature, which ends up critically injuring him, making him worse off than when he started and of course bringing the sun's heat back to continue melting him.
  • Noodle Incident: Tim and Puss have a history together involving an incident with a polar bear, but Puss can't remember any of it at all.
  • Not Quite Dead: Tim ultimately melts, but his Spirit Crystal remains intact. Tim can be brought back to life if said crystal is returned to a cold environment.
  • Watching the Sunset: With Tim's time almost up, the last thing he wants is to watch the sunset as he dies.
Tim: You know, back in the arctic, the sun only sets once a year. Sunsets are always a special treat. I'd love to see... just one more.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Tim is an Ice Golem in a desert environment. He quickly realizes he's going to melt to death before too long.
