Chapter 11

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In "Operation: Break Out", Donatello is told to give-up on getting with April by Raphael because she's a human and he's a mutant turtle, Leonardo and Michelangelo agreeing with Raph in silence and Donatello staging his one-turtle rescue just to spite them. Here, his siblings are much more encouraging with Donatello's crush (them being humans a big factor in this), with Raphael giving genuinely good, if not mildly unorthodox, advice.
  • Girls Have Cooties: Gender-Inverted. When Raphael was 7, he asked a girl named Joi to be his girlfriend, who responded by throwing mud in his face for this very reason.
  • Mythology Gag: Raphael has a crush on a girl named Joi when he was younger, a possible reference to the character Joi Reynord from the 2003 series.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: "Parasitica" is almost entirely overlooked, special mention only going to how scary Tang Shen is Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Seen It All: Invoked. When Donatello admits that he's too nervous to ask April out, Raphael cites that he should do something so crazy, stupid and dangerous that asking April out would look easy in comparison. Raphael learned this when he asked a girl he liked out after stealing one of Miwa's stuffed animals, resulting in a horrifying beat-down from his sister. It is not until after Donatello survives his one-man rescue of Kirby, facing Kraang and the Newtralizer, does he ask her. Turns out she was waiting for him to ask her out the whole time.
  • Wham Episode: Kirby has been freed and Donnie and April are now an Official Couple.
