Luck be a Bat

  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: While she tries to figure out how and why her pet bat (Fufu) would escape his cage, Tai-Tai's daughters suggest she should try to see things from her bat's point of view. She sees that her cage has all the necessities a bat could ask for, food, water, bedding, luxurious amenities. Finally, Tai-Tai realizes the one amenity the cage is missing: freedom.
  • Gilded Cage: The cage that Tai-Tai puts Fufu in is actually a beautiful golden cage filled with all the luxuries a bat could ask for. It's so luxurious that for a moment, Fufu forgets he's in a cage.
  • Status Quo Is God: Zigzagged. After escaping from his cage, Sagwa and Fufu were convinced they would never see each other again, lest they risk the latter lose his freedom again. Later, Fufu realizes he can still see Sagwa, so long as he disguises himself so Tai-Tai doesn't recognize him. When the two overhear Tai-Tai weep and promise herself she would never cage Fufu again if she could only see him one last time. Once he comes forward, Tai-Tai breaks her promise, but (after one of daughters calls her out) lets him go (albeit, letting it be known that he may come anytime, implying she still would like him to bring her luck). Sagwa and Fufu are pretty glad to know that their friendship may resume as it did before.

Tea for Two Monkeys

  • Bittersweet Ending: Dongwa comes clean to the monkeys about putting holes in their tea satchels, but the damage has already been done. Since they were unable to pick enough tea leaves for the Magistrate's tea, he has them sent away and will spread word of their horrible services. Still, there's a ray of hope in all this: the monkeys have a belief that if no tree in their district goes untouched, it's an omen of good luck that means they will return. Hopefully, once the magistrate craves more tea, they will return and be able to restore their reputation. In the meanwhile, to show they harbor no hard feelings, the monkeys give the Miao siblings a ride in their satchels.
  • Easily Forgiven: You'd think the monkeys would be a little salty about Dongwa admitting he's the reason their tea-picking reputations were destroyed. But instead, they forgive the him on the basis that, at the time, he and Sagwa needed help saving Sheegwa.
  • The Resenter: Dongwa quickly turns jealous when the tea-picking monkeys gain favor of the Foolish Magistrate. So much so that he later tries to sabotage the monkeys' efforts by putting holes in their satchels.
