Recap / Power Rangers Mystic Force S1E21 Koragg's Trial

Go To

After failing to defeat the Rangers again due to his code of honor, Koragg is put on trial by Imperious.

Tropes

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: When Koragg demands his stolen magic back, Necrolai says possession is 9/10ths of the law. To take back what's his, Koragg nearly breaks her wrist and quickly tosses her aside. And even though he essentially outranks him, Imperious is too cowardly to challenge him without backup.
  • Clip Show: Rather unique in that half of the episode is still newly shot footage. It's also worth noting that, while this is a regular trope for the series, it happens much earlier in the season than normal.
  • Dirty Coward: Necrolai testifies against Koragg, insisting she hates to do so. When the Master rules in Koragg's favor, she attempts to play nice, and Koragg immediately denounces her as a hag.
  • Dramatic Irony: Though references are made to the preceding three-parter, neither villain is aware of the most damning possible evidence that would sway the Master: Koragg helping the Rangers undo the wish, and Imperious conspiring to overthrow the Master with the help of the Barbarian Beasts.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Koragg predicts that Imperious won't be around for much longer.
    • Koragg experiences a sudden flash (a baby wrapped in a red blanket) and is unsure of what it means.
  • Honor Before Reason: Koragg is on trial because of his insistence on winning with honor and how he passes up numerous opportunities to kill the Rangers. Elsewhere, the Rangers also discuss Koragg's honorable streak and find it puzzling. The Master ultimately rules that Koragg's honor makes him trustworthy and thus pardons him.
Koragg: Yes, my honor. My honor is the cornerstone of my being. A warrior without honor cannot be trusted to protect and serve you at all costs. Imperious has proven he is evil, but without honor, can he really be trusted?
  • Hypocritical Humor: Though it's not exactly played for laughs, we learn in the following two-parter that Koragg is Leanbow Reforged into a Minion, so his accusation that Imperious is disloyal because he used to be Calindor is rather funny if you know that beforehand.
  • Lampshade Hanging: When the Master issues his demand, Imperious remarks he simply got sick of seeing them just standing around talking and showing clips; he wants to settle this with some action.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: During the Megazord fight, Imperious immobilizes the Rangers and leaves them helpless. Koragg immediately removes the spell, as he refuses to win through such a sneaky attack. This instigates the trial.
  • Villain Episode: Though the Rangers get a subplot (painting a mural for Toby) and see some action, it's Koragg and Imperious who take center stage.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Imperious flees after facing Nick and Daggeron, while Koragg leaves after facing the other Rangers.
  • We Will Meet Again: Between villains, no less. Koragg basically tells Imperious to watch his back, and Imperious is defiant.
  • You Fool!: Imperious in response to Koragg's insistence on winning with honor.
