Recap / Power Rangers Dino Fury Episode Two Sporix Unleashed

Go To

As Zayto trains his new teammates to become Power Rangers, he and Ollie get into a disagreement over how to locate the Sporix.

Episode Tropes:

  • Action Mom: Dr. Akana is not a pushover as she helps fight off two Sporix beasts on her own.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Warden Garcia balks when Amelia and Ollie try to warn him about the Sporix invasion despite living in a world that is constantly under attack by extraterrestrial threats. Thankfully this is averted by everyone else and by the end of the episode the Warden has come around and is seen with Zayto (in Ranger form) when he sets up the Ranger hotline.
  • Are We There Yet?: When Void Knight leads Mucus to Area 62, she annoys him by asking this several times.
  • Ascended Fanboy: It's clear that both Ollie and Amelia are liking the idea of becoming Power Rangers, especially after hearing about the Boost Keys and the Zords.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Shockhorn is defeated, but Void Knight takes off with his Sporix cell. The energy scanner is also destroyed during the fight, but the Rangers decide to work with BuzzBlast in order to find the other Sporix with the help of the civilians.
  • Call-Back: When Ollie suggests combining his mother's drone with Void Knight's scanner, Solon warns him that combining human technology with alien technology can be dangerous. In the Operation Overdrive episode "Weather or Not", the villain Moltor tried the exact same thing, which led to a near-catastrophe when the combined tech went haywire.
  • Came Back Strong: This turns out to be the problem with fighting Sporix; even if they are destroyed in their giant forms the cells themselves will simply regenerate over time into a more powerful Sporix, explaining why Zayto and the other Rangers of the past had to keep them contained.
  • Cassandra Truth: Zigzaged. When Amelia and Ollie try to warn Warden Garcia about the Sporix, he thinks that it's another one of Amelia's antics and sarcastically asks if the Sporix get around in a UFO. Ollie's mother on the other hand believes them and tries to help track down the Sporix by rigging Void Knight's energy scanner to her drone.
  • Fartillery: Zayto uses a Power Key with this power while fighting against Shockhorn. It works, but the horrible smell knocks everyone on the ground, including himself.
  • Gotta Catch Them All: Void Knight places Shockhorn's powered up Sporix cell inside a machine of his to power it up but the device only powers up a little bit. He concludes that he will need more Sporix for his plan to become complete.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: The episode opens with Zayto averting that, training Ollie and Amelia on how to morph. It's needed as Amelia almost backhands Zayto and Ollie loses the grip on his Ranger Key.
  • It Only Works Once: Void Knight attempts to enter the Rangers' base again, only to find Solon had put up a force field to keep him out.
  • Mythology Gag: Jane got her J-Borg from Hartford Robotics.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Against his teammates' wishes, Ollie gives his mom Void Knight's scanner so she could help find the Sporix across Pine Ridge. Unfortunately, that makes her an easy target for Void Knight.
  • Persona Non Grata: Warden Garcia bans Dr. Akana and Ollie from going near Dinohenge again.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: The battle between Zayto and Mucus ends with him turning the Sporix into a pile of goop with a single slash of his blade. The Rangers themselves are surprised by this. However this doesn't kill her as she simply regenerates from her goop later on, even boasting that she is "invincible."
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Thanks to the power of social media, footage of the first Sporix attack is uploaded almost immediately averting a potential Secret War between them and the Rangers. This gives the Rangers the opportunity to spread the word of the Sporix quickly and allows them to set up a hotline for civilians to call in case of another attack.
    • Ollie nearly blows his Ranger identity to his mom while talking to her because she recognizes his voice, leading him to quickly change his pitch to try and disguise it.
  • Teleportation Sickness: Amelia and Ollie suffer from this the first few times they teleport but while Amelia gets used to it Ollie does not.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Ollie and Amelia ask about the other three keys given the fact there are six statutes in Dinohenge. Zayto grimly explains that those keys were lost when the Knights who wielded them fell.
