When Smash discovers Ravi's love of painting, Ravi tries to erase his memory, but accidentally ends up making Smash obsessed with painting. Meanwhile, Evox recruits the dreaded Vargoyle to his cause.
Episode Tropes:
- Dirty Coward: The first thing Scrozzle does to take Vargoyle off his back is blame Blaze and Roxy for losing the Fury Cells. He is neither wrong nor is he lying, however.
- Exact Words: When Evox offers Vargoyle the Beast Powers upgrade in exchange for his services, Blaze and Roxy protest that they were the ones who were supposed to receive the upgrade. Evox bluntly replies that he actually promised the upgrade to his "strongest servant."
- Foreshadowing: Smash's prediction at the end of the episode that Ravi's mother will ultimately come to accept Ravi for who he is foreshadows the events of next season's "Artist Anonymous."
- Internal Reveal: The rest of the Rangers find out about Ravi's passion for painting.
- Mythology Gag: Vargoyle pretending to be weaker than he really is is much like Brax's MO. Coincidentally (or maybe not), Jamie Linehan, who voices both Vargoyle and Steel, also voiced Brax.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ravi's attempt to erase Smash's memory did more harm than ever. Not only did it cause Smash to obsess over painting, he gets a virus that prevents him from linking up to the Beast Wheeler Zord.
- Oh, Crap!: Ravi's reaction when Smash walks in on him painting a picture of the real Roxy. Also Ben and Betty's reaction when they see Smash out in public painting all over a public toilets building.
- The Reveal: After being mentioned by Scrozzle several times in the past, Vargoyle finally makes an appearance.
