And thus, Mephisto begins this waltz.

"Only two paths lie before us. One to an early grave, and one to a glorious victory. Just as Bandera challenged Melnyk's wicked corruption, so too must we purge our ranks of a Vozhd whose ambitions betray our ideals."
Yaroslav Stetsko

After Dmytro Klyachkivsky's invasion of Gotenland, Stetsko worries that the Vozhd's blind military ventures will doom the UPA. Therefore, he forms a truce with Shukhevych to eliminate the Vozhd and give an opportunity for one of them to succeed him. Combining their strength and allies, the two plot an assassination attempt when Klyachkivsky oversees the reconstruction of Kyiv and resolves to take a tour through the city. The success or failure of the plan will depend on who wields the most influence.

If Klyachkivsky wields the most influence, the Vozhd safely returns back to headquarters and is surprised by the news of Roman Shukhevych and Yaroslav Stetsko's fraternal coup. Having wielded the most influence out of the three, Klyachkivsky commanded enough loyalists for his First Minister, Stepan Lenkavskyi, to subvert the coup and unveil its organizers. Furious, Klyachkivsky orders the executions of Shukhevych and Stetsko, taking them and their conspirators to the gallows and eliminating them as threats, securing the Vozhd's place.

Otherwise, Klyachkivsky's driver takes his car down an obscure alleyway so he can be gunned down by an assassin. With the common threat eliminated, the two coup's masterminds turn on each other to seize power. If Shukhevych is more influential, Stetsko is apprehended by his bodyguards and personally executed by Shukhevych with a bullet to the head. Stetsko's other allies are also purged, firmly placing the UPA under Shukhevych's control.

Meanwhile, if Stetsko is more powerful, he orders the executions of Shukhevych and his allies. Led to a firing squad with his son, Shukhevych spends his last moments apologizing for his failure and declaring his love for him, a feeling that is reciprocated, until they meet their end. With his enemies neutralized, Stetsko turns his attention back to Ukraine and wildly imagines how easily he can shape the country to his whims.

Uniquely, both Shukhevych and Stetsko can have equal influence, meaning that neither has the edge to seize power. Stepan Lenkavskyi, First Minister to the Vozhd, rallies Klyachkivsky's loyalists to secure the government building for himself and succeed the position. Furious by the treachery, Lenkavskyi orders a round of purges against Klyachkivsky's assassins, including the executions of Stetsko and Shukhevych. However, the two men escape with their cliques, in which the former fortifies in the south and the latter takes the west. Thus, begins another civil war for the fate of Ukraine, in which Stepan Bandera can only watch from the afterlife, as his own organization tears itself apart.

This route provides examples of:

  • The Coup: Fearing that Klyachkivsky is dooming the UPA with his excessive militarism, Stetsko recruits Shukhevych to mount a coup on the UPA. Klyachikivsky is assassinated if either conspirator wields more influence. The rest of his supporters can also normally be purged, but Lenkavskyi can survive and temporarily succeed the Vozhd, if Stetsko and Shukhevych have equal influence.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • After smoothly carrying out Klyachkivsky's assassination and having equal influence to Shukhevych, Stetsko is taken aback when Lenkavskyi swoops in to replace the late Vozhd, being very unwilling to surrender the position so easily.
    • If Klyachkivsky's rivals assassinate the Vozhd and have unequal influence, Stetsko will be surprised by Shukhevych challenging him so early, but he rolls with it.
  • Enemy Mine: Subverted if Shukhevych wields more influence than Stetsko and has him pinned. The latter, desperate to save his life, offers to work together for a mutual goal, but Shukhevych feigns contemplation before ordering his execution.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Lenkavskyi unexpectedly takes power, Stetsko breaks down from the realization that Germany is going to invade Ukraine again and hang him. However, Stetsko gets a relieving moment of lucidity when he realizes that he can forcibly take over the UPA and offer Ukraine up to Germany, currying their favor to save his own skin.
  • Hanging Around: If the conspiracy fails, Klyachkivsky and his men will grab some rope and make a noose to hang those who tried to assassinate the Vozhd.
  • It Began with a Twist of Fate: Seeing his own exhausted appearance and discomforted by his unfamiliarity with Kyiv, Klyachkivsky takes a random tour through the city so he can alleviate his turmoil. If Shukhevych or Stetsko wield more influence than him, this seemingly mundane trip leads to his assassination when the driver suddenly swerves into an alleyway and someone guns him down with a machine gun, throwing the UPA into chaos and escalating the power struggle. By contrast, if Klyachkivsky wields more influence, he narrowly escapes his demise with the tour, as Lenkavskyi and his supporters fight back and round up the conspirators to be executed.
  • Make an Example of Them:
    • After thwarting Stetsko and Shukhevych's coup, Klyachkivsky orders the execution of them both and their supporters, hanging their bodies on the gallows for weeks to set an example.
    • Shukhevych and his son will be executed by a victorious Stetsko, with their bodies left behind as a reminder to everyone else who might challenge the Vozhd.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: After the UPA invades Crimea, Stetsko and his clique start plotting against Klyachkivsky, thinking that his warmongering is going to get them all killed.
  • The Purge:
    • If Stetsko and Shukhevych had unequal power and successfully assassinate Klyachkivsky, they will purge the rest of Vozhd's supporters, including the execution of Myron and Lenkavskyi.
    • After executing Stetsko, Shukhevych cements his power by eliminating the rest of his rival's supporters. He imprisons Slava for life and executes Piasetsky, Lebed, and Rebet. Any generals associated with Stetsko, but not directly involved in his plans, are stripped of their medals.
    • Stetsko does the same to Shukhevych and his supporters if he wins the power struggle, in which Stetsko hears a gunshot in the radio station where he's delivering a speech.
  • Quality over Quantity: Inverted if Stetsko purges Shukhevych, where the new Vozhd relies on subpar, planted evidence to "prove" the latter's treason, hoping that the quantity will outweigh the quality.
  • Sleep Deprivation: After conquering Gotenland, Klyachkivsky realizes how little sleep he's gotten. Looking back at a mirror, he sees that he's developed Exhausted Eye Bags, looking terrible and thinking that it's a sign of his own weakness for letting the UPA be fractured by internal division.
