• Call-Back: Ninja Bonnie is back.
• Dirty Old Man: Subverted; the Ninja Elder at first acts like this, but then it's shortly revealed that the woman he's making advances to is probably just as old as he is.
• Famed In-Story: The Ninja village has a legend of how, in its time of need, the village was saved by a group of ninjas, led by a peculiar-looking Greninja. This hero is the inspiration for why brothers Ippei and Sanpei chose Froakie as their starter Pokémon.
• Foreshadowing: That unique-looking Greninja? We'll be seeing it soon...
• Lightning Bruiser: Despite being squat and built like a tank, Nihei's Venusaur is more than fast enough to keep up with Sanpei's Greninja.
• Older Than They Look: Shinobu, and how! She's 100 years old, but uses a jutsu to make herself look like she's 20.
• Spider-Sense: Both Squishy and Frogadier sense Sanpei and his Greninja before anyone else does.
• Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Squishy and Dedenne trigger a trap door in Sanpei's room, fall through a shaft, and land right in Ippei's arms. However, as ninjas, this is probably a normal occurrence for them.
• Yank the Dog's Chain: It looks like Bonnie finally found someone that accepts her proposal to hook up with Clemont...that is, until she reveals that she's using a jutsu to make herself look young. The siblings' reactions when she reveals her true appearance are priceless.
  • Shout-Out: The woman is clearly one to Tsunade from Naruto, though Tsunade real age is nowhere near as old as the one here, though does still look as old for other reasons. Hell, the entire village is clearly inspired by the Leaf Village in general.
