Recap / Pokemon S 16 E 10 Camerons Secret Weapon

Go To

Picking up from the previous episode, Ash and Cameron's full battle is just about to begin and Cameron has revealed his secret weapon to be Hydreigon. Cameron has given it that nickname for good reason, as its power makes it an extremely difficult opponent right off the bat, defeating Ash's Boldore and Oshawott with relatively little trouble. Ash finally defeats it with Pignite, who then goes onto defeat Cameron's Ferrothorn before losing to Samurott. Pikachu then steps in and defeats both Samurott and Cameron's fourth Pokémon Swanna. Ash is now in the lead and Cameron tells Riolu that it's his last hope, much to Ash's confusion. It turns out that Cameron thought that full battles were only five-on-five and so he didn't bring a sixth Pokémon with him, much to his own horror and everyone else's chagrin. However, Riolu is a strong Pokémon and Cameron decides to keep going. Ash substitutes Pikachu with Unfezant, but as he has seen before, Riolu is very strong and ends up beating it. He then sends in Snivy and just as things are looking over for Cameron, Riolu unexpectedly evolves into Lucario!

Tropes

  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Boldore and Oshawott are both taken out but the former lands a Rock Smash and Oshawott lands all four of his moves on Hydreigon.
  • David vs. Goliath: Oshawott takes on Hydreigon and though he loses, manages to inflict a lot of damage on Hydreigon (with even Tackle dealing damage!) and allow Pignite to finish the job.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: After Snivy inflicts a lot of damage to Riolu by ease, Riolu evolves into Lucario- somehow just by getting to his feet.
  • In-Universe Factoid Failure: Cameron thought that full battles were only five-on-five.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Cameron when Ash tells him that full battles are actually six-on-six, meaning Cameron has accidentally handicapped himself during the match.
    • Everyone's face when Riolu evolves into Lucario during the middle of a match. Cameron's chances of survival after the above Epic Fail moment just went higher.
  • Ramming Always Works: Oshawott uses Tackle to damage Hydreigon.
  • Scissors Cuts Rock: Riolu, a baby Fighting Pokémon, defeating a fully evolved Flying-type Unfezant. All without taking much damage nor exhaustion, as well as using not-so-strong moves (Force Palm, Copycat and Vacuum Wave). Riolu was so quick that Unfezant couldn't do a thing without it sending her own moves back at her with Copycat or dodging them.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Ash and Riolu's dumbstruck reaction when the former actually has to tell Cameron that full battles are six-on-six instead of five-on-five just scream this.
