- Completely contrasting Lightning's unsportsmanship behavior in the last match, Rarity shakes Rainbow's hand after their match, conceding defeat to her.
- Contrasting his prideful attitude throughout the match, Heath remains cordial with Doc after he's beaten and wishes him luck for the rest of the Hoof Cup.
- Meaningful Name: Doc's opponent is named Heath Burns and he sends out a fire-type Pokémon for the Hoof Cup.
- Smug Snake: Heath arrogantly believes that he's going to win the Hoof Cup and voices his underestimations of Doc, even though he's a Gym leader and ultimately defeats him in the battle.
- Slobs Versus Snobs: The fifth match is between Rainbow Dash and Rarity, who have completely different lifestyles, as exemplified when Rainbow eats a burger and Rarity eats a healthier salad.
- Underestimating Badassery: Heath believes he has an advantage against Doc, due to knowing he is a Gym Leader that specializes in Steel-Types he prepares by using his Lizash, a Fire-Type, against him. To his shock, Doc ends up winning despite this type disadvantage due to using his special strategy.
