- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Micro Chips describes Sandalwood as a laidback dude, but a tough and determined trainer in battle.
- Dance Battler: For her match against Twilight, Inky sends out a Gothorita, which looks and spins like a ballerina.
- Graceful Loser: Sandalwood gets beaten by Pinkie Pie in their match, but he cordially accepts her offered Poke-Muff and thanks her for the good match.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Twilight wins her match against Inky Rose by having Owlicious throw Gothorita into its own Future Sight attack.
- Pint Sized Power House: Gummy doesn't budge an inch when Grotle tries to throw him while he is hanging on to his tail. Then, when ordered by Pinkie, Gummy ends up picking Grotle off the ground by its tail, spinning it in the air, and throwing it.
- Sore Loser: After Twilight wins her first match, Inky Rose storms off and thus Twilight couldn't reach her to part ways amicably.
