Recap / Pokemon EA 10 The Prince Of The Forest Returns

Go To

The group encounters a Ferrothorn terrorizing a forest sanctuary for Grass-Types. Now, Prongs must decide if he needs to evolve in order to defeat it, or if he can do it as he is.

  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": Zig-zagged when Flash asks Prongs if he wants to evolve. Prongs at first nods his head, only to shake his head when asking to confirm. Spike is confused by the conflicting answers, but everyone else quickly figures out Prongs is saying he doesn't want to evolve yet. He wants to earn his evolution first by defeating Ferrothorn, instead of using his evolution as a shortcut to gain a simple power boost.
  • Call-Back: Prong's title of Prince of the Forest is recalled by Flash and Twilight, with the two of them explaining the story they heard about him when he and Flash first met.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Ferrothorn is defeated by Prongs, it turns over a new leaf when shown kindness by Prongs giving it a berry to recover, and Tomar explaining it doesn't need to steal food from others since there is plenty for everyone. The ending scene has Tomar say that Ferrothorn has agreed to become his partner and help him protect the sanctuary from any trouble.
  • Heroic Rematch: Prongs is completly outmatched by Ferrothorn when they first battle, resulting it him being easily being beaten. After Flash trains with him and he learns Bounce, he ends up defeating Ferrothorn in a rematch.
  • Honor Before Reason: Doc and Twilight both note that Viper would be a better choice to use against Ferrothorn, but Flash wants to use Prongs in the match since he wants to beat Ferrothorn more.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Spike speaks in favor of Prongs evolving, asking why Flash wouldn't want his Pokémon to evolve and become more powerful, before remebering the circumstances with Springer.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Prongs learns Bounce in order to defeat Ferrothorn, and evolves into a Chitaleaf after defeating it.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Flash tells Prongs a story his granma told him once, of a knight from Galar with no skill but a magic sword that always let him win. Another knight found out about the sword's powers and tricked him into a duel, stealing the sword before the duel and replacing it with a fake. The first knight didn't notice the difference, and because he relied so much on the sword's power he never learned to fight properly, resulting in him being cut down by his opponent. Flash uses the story to voice his approval that Prongs wants to earn the power of his evolution first to acquire the skill to use it, instead of just getting it to defeat an immediate opponent.
Flash: The moral of the story is that having power can take you far, but without the knowledge of how to use that power, then it's worthless to you. Power that is earned will always overpower something that is given or taken.
